Lead is a toxic heavy metal that threatens wildlife
The South African Lead Task Team was established in 2019 due to increasing awareness of lead’s negative impact on wildlife, people and the environment. The Lead Task Team’s mission is to ensure that wildlife is not harmed by exposure to lead.
Aims of the Lead Task Team
- Support the sustainable and responsible use of wildlife.
- Implement strategies to reduce exposure of wildlife to lead, resulting in better conservation outcomes.
- Empower all South Africans to make informed decisions for their own health and that of their families.
- Fill knowledge gaps through research and monitoring within the African context.
- Remove barriers and increase access to affordable lead-free alternatives
- Create a collaborative forum for all stakeholders to share concerns, generate ideas and co-develop solutions.
